Job Description

WVGES is seeking an experienced geologist to join the Geoscience & Mapping team. This is an office and field position focused primarily on geological mapping and GIS-based map construction.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct geological mapping and field sampling.
- Describe samples and rocks.
- Inventory and organize legacy datasets.
- Scan and digitally capture geological data.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Respond to public requests for information.
- Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills and Experience:
- Geological mapping experience, particularly in regional and local areas with structurally complex geology.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ESRI mapping packages including ArcGIS Pro and ArcOnline.
- Experience collecting digital field data and using advanced imagery basemaps.
- Hydrogeology and surficial mapping experience is preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors all day in rough terrain and variable weather for up to a week at a time, multiple weeks per year.
- Valid driver's license and ability to be insured under the state's vehicle insurance plan.

Qualification

Minimum MS degree in Geology from an accredited college or university, including coursework in Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, and Structural Geology and successful completion of geologic field camp. A BS degree in Geology plus 2 years of professional work experience may be substituted for the MS degree. Applicants with GIS backgrounds are preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ESRI mapping packages such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcOnline is required.
